Underdog Fantasy Picks For NFL Preseason Week 2
Calvin Ridley HIGHER 25.5 Receiving Yards
Cam Ward made his debut last week, and Calvin Ridley was his favorite target. The starters only played two drives. However, after the first drive went three-and-out, they got the ball moving on the second drive. That includes three straight passes to Calvin Ridley for 50 yards.
I imagine the Titans will want to get Cam Ward some more playing time this week to get him ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Therefore, I love adding his top target, Calvin Ridley, to our NFL Week 2 Preseason Underdog Fantasy pick’em entry.
The Titans play the Falcons, who allowed 78 yards to Jackson Meeks and 26 yards to Ronnie Bell last week in a game that didn’t finish. Calvin Ridley is better than both of those two by a mile. Plus, he has already shown to be the favorite target for Cam Ward. Expect more from them this week.
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ridley surpasses the 50-yard stat line, making this a smash spot.
Gardner Minshew HIGHER 67.5 Passing Yards
Last week, Gardner Minshew only threw nine passes as Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun saw more time. I expect Mahomes will get more time this week, and Minshew will close out the first half. He may also get some time at the beginning of the third.
Mahomes has been healthy for the majority of his career. The Chiefs will want to make sure Minshew can handle the pressure should something happen. Last week, in his nine passes, he completed six of them for 54 yards.
Having just 13.5 yards shy of his number this week, with more playing time, he should have no problem hitting it. Last week, the Seahawks allowed second-string quarterback Aidan O’Connell to throw for 205 yards. The third-string quarterback, Cam Miller, also threw for 76 yards.
We saw O’Connell and Minshew play on the same team and battle for the starting quarterback position last year. There was a reason that Minshew originally won that battle. It’s the same reason I have to put him on my NFL Week 2 Preseason Underdog Fantasy pick’em entry. Higher than 67.5 passing yards seems like an easy one.
Tet McMillan HIGHER 27.5 Receiving Yards
Last week, rookie Tet McMillan was targeted five different times. He caught two of those for 43 yards, including a 30-yard catch. The Panthers will want to get him and Bryce Young some more reps this week. They have to make sure they get more comfortable with each other and are ready to roll in Week 1.
The Panthers play the Texans this week. The Vikings allowed Jordan Addison and Lucky Jackson to each have higher than 27.5 receiving yards. If I’m being honest, McMillan is better than both of them.
I also like how this Panthers team ran their offense. It benefits McMillan this week if they stick to the same formula, which I expect them to. They threw the ball 35 times last week and only ran it 14. Part of that may have been because they were behind.
However, it’s preseason, therefore I don’t think they’d abandon the game script just because they were behind. McMillan was on last week’s entry. Now he’s on this week’s NFL Week 2 Preseason Underdog Fantasy pick’em entry.
Coleston Loveland HIGHER 15.5 Receiving Yards
If you’re a Bears fan, you’re hoping to see this offense take off quickly this weekend. After bringing in head coach Ben Johnson, former offensive coordinator for the Lions, they’ll want to see this offense explode. Johnson has confirmed that the starters will play.
We saw what Ben Johnson was able to do with Sam Laporta in Laporta’s rookie year. Now he hand-selected Coleston Loveland in the first round this year because he said he reminded him of Sam Laporta. I think Caleb Williams will want to get him going early in this game as they move down the field, showing off their new offense.
Loveland may also play with the twos for a while as he gets more familiar with the NFL. Last week, he had two targets. He caught one of those for eight yards. I think he’ll have more targets, more catches, and more yards this week. He’s a great addition to the NFL Week 2 Preseason Underdog Fantasy pick’em entry.
Aiden O’Connell Higher 0.5 Passing touchdowns Or HIGHER 94.5 Passing Yards
It’s weird to say this out loud, but Aiden O’Connell played pretty decently last week. Therefore, we have to target him for our NFL Week 2 Preseason Underdog Fantasy pick’em entry. As the once starter for the Las Vegas Raiders, he’s now a backup to Geno Smith. However, he wants to prove he deserves that number two job.
Last week, O’Connell threw the ball 30 times. He completed 18 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown. This week, I like him to go over both his passing yards and his touchdown passes. The Raiders play the 49ers this week, who didn’t look great in their debut.
In fact, they allowed Jarret Stidham to go 14 for 15, 136 yards, and two passing touchdowns. Can O’Connell match this stat line? He certainly should get some playing time once Geno and the first-team come off the field. He’ll also have the benefit of playing against the back-ups. I think O’Connell can turn in another nice performance this week.
All together for this Underdog Fantasy pick’em entry, $10 will get you $200 in a standard play. In flex play, you’ll get $100 if all hit, and $25 if four hit. Let’s build the bankroll for the regular season!
