Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for August 14
Tarik Skubal – Higher than 7.5 Strikeouts
Since the All-Star break, Skubal has only beat this projection in two of the four games that he’s pitched. However, he came up just one strikout short of it against the Blue Jays – who are the hardest team in the majors to strikeout. Now he’ll get Minnesota, who has had issues with strikeouts in their last three. They’ve fanned 10.33 times per game over that stretch. Additionally, the last time Skubal saw them, he hung 13 strikeouts on them. I think he can find just eight in this one.
Pete Alonso – Higher than 7.5 Fantasy Points
I know that Alonso’s fantasy points are mostly just based on how many bases he can get. He’s not stealing bases or a particularly big run scorer. With that being said, I still like the higher than on his points thanks to his recent trends and the pitching matchup. In his last three games he has six extra base hits (three doubles and three homers). Now he gets Bryce Elder who he is hitting .375 against – with two-thirds of those hits going for extra bases.
Tommy Fleetwood – Lower than 68.5 Round Strokes
In his last four tournaments, Fleetwood has been lower than this projection in 56.25% of his rounds. Having crumbled looking for his first win last weekend, you have to imagine he wants to come out and make a statement here. Additionally, Caves Valley Golf Course has recognized that it was easy and dropped the par from a 72 to a 70. As a result, we’re only looking for Fleetwood to give us a -2 on the day.
