Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for August 9

Charlie Morton – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

The resurgence of Charlie Morton will need to be studied. After being signed by the Orioles, he looked like one of the very worst pitchers in the majors. Since the calendar turned to June, he’s been outstanding – which earned him plenty of trade interest. In his first start after they flipped him to Detroit, he fanned seven Phillies in 6.0 innings – allowing just one run in the process. He’s now grabbed six or more strikeouts in two of his last three, with the only failure being the Blue Jays, who are the hardest team in the majors to strike out. Now he gets the team ranked 30th in strikeouts – the Angels with 9.72 strikeouts per game.

Hurston Waldrep – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts

The Braves rookie earned himself a start when he showed up and showed out at the Speedway Classic. After the rain stopped the game on Saturday, he went 5.2 innings on Sunday and held the Reds to just one run – picking up the win in the process. He struck out four Reds in that game. I think with his feet under him for a proper start, he should be primed to get more. Plus, the Georgia-native will be getting his first taste of Truist Park this year.

Andre Fili – Higher than 48.5 Significant Strikes

Over in the cage on Saturday, Andre Fili should easily cruise to this many significant strikes. Christian Rodriguez is an opponent who pushes the pace, and neither of these guys have all that much finishing power. In fact, Rodriguez has just one finish in his eight UFC fights. If you look at the last three times that Fili has been to a decision, he’s cleared this mark in each of them. As long as he keeps his consciousness, this should be a cinch.
