Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 18
Ceddanne Rafaela – Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Going into the All-Star Break, there was nobody in the majors hotter than Rafaela. He was tearing the cover off the ball and hit power was off the charts. In his last 10 games prior to the break, he cleared this projection in nine of them. He actually cleared it with just RBIs in four of the last five. The guy is slugging .902 in the month of July and gets a lefty to feast on Friday in Shota Imanaga. Expect him to pick up right where he left off.
Charlie Morton – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts
Morton has been on a bit of a roll as of late. Despite starting this season embarassingly slow, he’s found himself as one of the more valuable members of the Orioles rotation. A lot of that has to do with an uptick in his strikeout numbers. In his last five starts, he’s fanned 31 batters – or 6.2 per game. One of those games was against Tampa Bay, who he happens to face on Friday. In that game he went 6.0 strong with just one earned run and seven strikeouts.
Jonathan Cannon – Higher than 3.5 Strikeouts
Getting the ball for the White Sox the first day after the break is Jonathan Cannon. He hasn’t had the best results as of late, but one thing he does have is strikeouts. In his last five games, he’s only managed to throw innings – which comes out to just over 4.1 innings per start. However, despite those short outings, he’s gone higher than this figure in four of the five starts. Now he gets the Pirates, who are 23rd in MLB in strikeouts (8.71 per game). When you add in that their offense hasn’t been sharp and Cannon might be able to get deeper, this number seems like a breeze.
