Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 11

Chase Burns – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Chase Burns has been a dynamo for the Reds this year. This will be his fourth start and he’s looked mostly the part. He did have one ugly outing where he didn’t manage to get out of the first against the Red Sox, but in the other two outings he nabbed 7 and 8 strikeouts respectively. Those were against the Phillies and the Yankees, which are hard teams to keep quiet and get deep into the game on. I expect him to handle business against the Rockies here.

Grant Holmes – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Holmes is another pitcher who I think is being undervalued on the strikeout market for Friday. He has put up big numbers throughout the last month with his swing and miss stuff. In the last five starts (29.0 innings), he’s fanned 41 batters. That’s over 1.4 per inning. If he were to keep that pace in this one, he’ll only need to throw four innings. While the Cardinals are a tough team to strikeout, I think he can work 6.0 innings, and give us at least one per.

Edward Cabrera – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Another new pitcher, another 5.5. strikeout projection.

Edward Cabrera has been wildly steady with his swing and miss stuff lately. He’s had either five or six strikeouts in each of his last seven starts – which is definitely what leads to this projection. However, I think this is a good case for more with the Orioles, who rank 26th in the majors with 8.84 strikeouts per game. They’re also coming off a Thursday double header, which could soften the bats.
