MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Oktagon 73
Oktagon Welterweight Fight: Jessin Ayari vs Niklas Stolze
Card Start Time: Saturday (6/28), 12:00pm EST (Oktagon TV)
One of my favorite underdog plays of the whole weekend comes to us from Germany. On the undercard, we have an all-German affair in one of the first main card bouts.
The underdog, Jessin Ayari, has a lot of people lined up to pick against him for good reason. He was ousted from the UFC after three straight losses, and then took nearly four years off. However, I’ve loved what we’ve seen from him since the return. He looks much stronger physically and clearly is a bit faster than he was prior on the feet. He also has shown some solid top control, which wasn’t his forte prior to the gap in his resume.
His fellow countryman Stolze is a striker through and through. He has regularly taken care of people on the feet, but struggled on the mats. Ayari should have the grappling in his back pocket, but I also think he can take him on the feet here.
