Athletics vs Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers continue to be, surprisingly, the best team in the majors, with a 49-30 record, their best winning percentage since they won their last World Series title in 1984. And much of their success stems from their ace, Tarik Skubal.
Skubal, who won the Cy Young Award last season after securing a rare pitching Triple Crown (led the league in wins, strikeouts, and ERA), is arguably having an even better season this year for the Tigers, with his ERA+ rising from last season’s league-leading 168 to 191 this year.
Yet, despite all of this, I’m making a prop play fading Skubal. Even though he’s striking out more batters per nine innings this year. And even though he’s facing the miserable (don’t call us Sacramento) Athletics tomorrow.
That’s because Skubal’s strikeout prop is set at 7.5, and he’s been under this total in four straight starts. And, while the Athletics aren’t good, they’re only 16th in the majors in striking out, whiffing a little over eight times per game.
