MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFa 211
LFA Flyweight Fight: Phumi Nkuta vs Cody Davis
Card Start Time: Friday (6/20), 9:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
Phumi Nkuta is a fighter that a lot of pundits have had slotted for a spot in the UFC for a long time. He’s sharp, he’s dyanmic, and he’s entertaining to watch. However, in this one, I think he’s run into a bad matchup for himself.
For one, his strikes tend to overextend himself from time to time. Davis is much more compact with his striking. I believe his fundementals and his countering could give Nkuta struggles on the feet. There’s also the grappling aspect of things. Similar to the stand up, Nkuta takes a few too many risks in terms of positions and submission attempts. The basics and strong wrestling of Davis should see him come out on top of most of the grappling exchanges.
If Davis is able to keep things simple, he should walk away with a victory and a big underdog cash for us.
