The UFC octagon continues its world tour this week, flying from Atlanta, Georgia, to Baku, Azerbaijan (which neighbors the country of Georgia), for this coming Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Hill vs Rountree. For my MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC Baku, we’re backing a veteran heavyweight who’s welcoming a newcomer to the UFC. Let’s go!

MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC Atlanta
UFC Fight Night: Hill vs Rountree (aka UFC Baku)
Main Card Start Time: 3:00 PM EST – (ABC/ESPN+)
The veteran heavyweight in question would be American Curtis Blaydes, who’s been near the top of the heavyweight food chain for seven years or so, give or take. The newcomer would be Russian Rizvan Kuniev, who fought twice on Dana White’s Contender Series and once in the PFL.
This matchup was originally scheduled for February and then March of this year, but it was postponed twice. Hopefully third time is the charm. And I like Blaydes in this matchup. Kuniev hasn’t looked like the same fighter since popping for steroids two years ago, and he’ll likely get taken down and ground out by Blaydes. Because, basically, everyone gets taken down and ground out by Blaydes.
