MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 16

Baltimore Orioles vs. Tampa Bay Rays

First Pitch – 7:35 pm EST
George M. Steinbrenner Field – Tampa, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV

The first pricher we’ll see here in our quest for an NRFI is Ryan Pepiot. Despite posting a 3-6 record, he has some really nice numbers on the season. He has posted a 3.31 ERA and a 3.04 K-to-BB ratio. Over his last four starts (25.1 innings), he’s allowed only five earned runs and struck out 26 batters. Now he’ll get a Baltimore lineup that hasn’t been what we expected this year. They rank 26th in first inning scoring (0.36 per game) and 25th in overall scoring (3.88 per game). Pepiot shouldn’t have any issues keeping them quiet early.

The Orioles staff hasn’t been all that great this season either, but Zach Eflin has held his own. His ERA sits just a whisker over 4.00 and he’s been even sharper as of late. He’s allowed just four earned runs in his last three starts (19.2 innings). His stikeout numbers have peaked in that span too as he’s fanned 18 batters in that span. Tampa, like Baltimore, hasn’t been all that good early on in games. They similarly sit in the bottom third of the league when it comes to first inning scoring.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 16: No (-105)

Boston Red Sox vs. Seattle Mariners

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Red Sox will get the first hacks in this one with one notable absence. Rafael Devers was shipped off to San Fransisco in the night, leaving them with quite a bit less pop in the middle of their order. The Mariners might not even need that much help at keeping them quiet. The Red Sox are riding a five-game win streak in which they’ve only scored 15 total runs (3.0 per game). Logan Gilbert, meanwhile, returns from an injury here, but had 2.37 ERA when he went down. He also had 44 strikeouts in just 30.1 innings.

The bottom of the inning sees Lucas Giolito back on the bump. His numbers are far less appealing when playing an NRFI. However, he has kept three of his last four opponents to a run or less. Apart from one game where the Angels blew him up, he has been solid for the last month. The Mariners have also not been the hottest hitting team as of late. They have scored just 22 runs in their last four, which is down from their season average.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 16: No (-130)
