MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 2

Washington Nationals vs. Cincinnati Reds

First Pitch – 6:10 pm EST
Great American Ballpark – Cincinnati, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

Washington will dig out the bats first looking to ruin our NRFI. Their offense has been just fine this year, but nothing to write home about. You’ll likely need more than a middle of the pack offense to give any real trouble to Hunter Greene. He’s been solid all year, posting a 2.70 ERA on the season with 43 strikeouts in just 36.2 innings. He’s had some issues with home runs in some of the more hitter friendly parks this year. Although that could be a problem in Cincinnati, the Nationals are 20th in MLB in home runs per game. As a result, I think he should keep them in the park and off the board.

The bottom of the inning gives me even less cause for concern. Mitchell Parker has been lights out this year. He did have a rougher outing against the Mets last time out, which drove his ERA all the way up to 2.65. Prior to that outing, he had been sporting a 1.73 ERA and was dealing. Although he’s not a big strikeout guy, I do think he enduces enough weak contact to make these first three outs easy enough. So let’s bring home that NRFI.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 2: No (-135)

Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers

First Pitch – 8:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

Jack Leiter makes his second start since returning from his early injury. He, much like all of the pitchers we’ve mentioned here, has been great in 2025. His 2.03 ERA doesn’t even highlight how good he’s been – with some of his earned runs coming from some bad luck. He has also fanned 13 batters in just 13.1 innings, which should help him out against the strikeout heavy Mariners. They rank 25th in MLB when it comes to striking out with 8.93 a game. So even if Leiter encounters some problems in the first, he should be able to pitch himself out of it.

In the bottom of the first, Bryan Woo takes to the bump. He’s not nearly the strikeout pitcher that Leiter is, but he has been cruising lately. He’s fresh off of an outing against the hard hitting Red Sox in which he held them to just two runs with eight strikeouts. That brought his ERA down to 3.09 on the year. Now he’ll get an even easier task in the Rangers, who have been awful at the plate. Their 3.22 runs per game ranks dead last in MLB.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 2: No (-130)
