There’s lots of reasons why Robson de Oliveira walks into this bout on Friday morning as the odds-on favorite. Who doesn’t like to see flashy submission finishes from a Brazilian jiu jitsu specialist? It’s especially true when he repeatedly scores them off his back.
However, I think he’s run into a fight where condeding the takedown and working off his back might be a bad idea.
Kohei Wakabayashi is an absolute grinder. He works so hard in top position and his low head placement makes it really hard to submit him. I think the wrestling he brings should keep him in good positions and riding his way to a safe decision – and subsequent dog cash here.
