MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFA 198
LFA Lightweight Title Fight: Elijah Johns vs Lerryan Douglas
Main Card Start Time: 10pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
This title fight in LFA should directly lead one of these two to the big show. Elijah Johns is the little brother of UFC fighter Miles Johns. Like his brother, his wrestling has proven to be a major X-factor en route to his 10-2 record on the regional scene. He’s picked up his last four wins with that wrestling and grinding his opponents out. As a result, he’s a bit heavy on decisions in his career – which may be why the UFC hasn’t picked him up yet.
He’ll face a dangerous striker in Lerryan Douglas who has already cashed as an underdog twice in this calendar year. Once as a +300 underdog and a second time as an underdog in a interim title fight. The books seem to underrate him due to the fact that his record is a bit spotty (11-5). However, his defense wrestling has really improved and there’s no doubting the power in those hands.
With Douglas looking so good in his defensive wrestling lately, I love him in an underdog spot here. Even if Johns sees some success with that wrestling, he doesn’t put many people away. That should give Douglas plenty of openings later in the fight to get those hands going.
