College Basketball Picks November 12
Kansas -5.5 vs. Michigan State
We are back on Kansas in his spot, and hopefully, they will come through for us in the State Farm Champions Classic. The State Farm Champions Classic takes place at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, a true neutral site game for these squads.
Historically speaking, Michigan State has struggled the most out of these four teams in this tournament. They are 5-8 all-time and are 3-8 in their last 11 matchups. Sparty hasn’t been tested this season, beating Niagara and Monmouth in their first two matchups. They are led by Senior guard Jaden Atkins and Junior forward Jaxon Kohler.
We discussed the problems Kansas presents with their veteran roster a few days ago. Although they didn’t cover the spread against UNC, the Jayhawks are more battle-tested and are clearly the better team in this matchup. I expect Hunter Dickinson to dominate against a Tom Izzo defense he has faced a ton throughout his collegiate career.
Kentucky Duke Over 160.5 Points Total
On to the night game in the State Farm Champions Classic. We hit on Duke’s team total a few days ago. KenPom ranks Duke as the third-best offense in the country. The combination of the freshmen Knueppel and Flagg with the veteran Proctor makes Duke truly an unguardable force.
On the other side, we have a Kentucky team that many wrote off before the season with the departure of John Calipari and many of their standout players from a year ago. Mark Pope led an elite offense at BYU during his time there, and I see no signs of it slowing down with the Wildcats. Dayton transfer Koby Brea is averaging 19.0 PPG in his first two contests, shooting a staggering 73.7% from the field and 83.3% from three.
I think these teams will put up some wild numbers on the scoreboard. 160.5 is a lot of points, but I think we are in store for a thriller.
