While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we head overseas for Oktagon 97 from Hannover, Germany for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Oktagon 97
Oktagon Featherweight Fight: Gjoni Palokaj vs Zafar Moshen
Card Start Time: Saturday (11/7), 12:00pm EST (Oktagon TV)
The Oktagon featherweight division will see plenty of movement on Saturday. In total, there are eight featherweight fighters in action, all with their eyes on making a run towards the title. It currently sits vacant due to Mochamed Machaev missing weight for the last title fight, which he won by KO.
The person he knocked out in that fight, Gjoni Palokaj, is one of the fighters looking to make a statement here. The Albanian fighter gets his first assignment since coming up short in that title fight. He was never particularly close to beating Mochamed Machaev, and if you look at his prior fights, there are other alarming trends. The biggest of them in terms of this fight is his tendency to get held on the cage and tire there. That’s a problem at this level, but particularly against an opponent like this.
Zafar Moshen is the type of fighter who can always bring the grind. He’s been a huge underdog in many of his past fights only to out-dog the people he’s fighting and steal a decision. Lately, he’s also added some dangerous striking – notably knocking out Richie Smullen with body shots. Look for him to use those shots to the body to tire Palokaj and then drag him into deep waters.
