While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we keep it domestic for LFA 244 from Mashantucket, Connecticut for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFA 244
LFA Middleweight Fight: Guram Mestvirishvili vs Jansey Silva
Card Start Time: Friday (10/23), 6:30pm EST (VICE TV)
While this fight card saw a few hits to it late in the month, there are still plenty of bangers to break down. One of those bangers features a fighter who is stepping into one of those vacant spots. When Preston LaGrange was signed to fight on Dana White’s Contender Series, Guram Mestvirishvili jumped at the opportunity. He’ll now face Jansey Silva on the main card.
Despite taking it on late notice, I really like Mestvirishvili in this fight. He carries an unconventional build for someone at 185lbs. He stands just 5’7″ tall and has the build of a refrigerator. That bodes well for him in many fights as he’s low to the ground which helps him get in on single leg takedowns. That’s his bread and butter – and the control that he brings along with it is tough for opponents to overcome.
Silva may be much taller, but has had issues with takedown defense in the past. He gave up repeated takedowns to Fernando Silva in their LFA title fight. That’s especially alarming given that Fernando is not known for his wrestling prowess. Since that fight, Silva has been fighting in Dirty Boxing, which helps him avoid the problem rather than address it.
It’s hard to imagine that Silva’s grappling defense would have gotten better in that time away from the ruleset. As a result, I like Mestvirishvili to control this fight and take a decision.
