Something deeply unsettling happened on this week’s Stephie Smalls Show.
Smalls and Producer Ryan kept agreeing with each other.
That should probably make everyone nervous.
The show started with player props, including a Michael Wilson anytime touchdown, Chase Brown rushing under, Jaxon Smith-Njigba receiving yards, Rashee Rice receiving yards, Josh Downs, Darren Waller, Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden and enough additional action to make Sunday afternoon significantly less relaxing.
Smalls even found one prop she liked enough to say she wanted to hold hands with it, kiss its forehead and eventually have its babies. We’re choosing to call that “conviction.”
Then came the real business: narrowing down the Week 4 board to five against-the-spread picks.
Ryan came in swinging with the Rams against Philadelphia, while Smalls liked Tampa Bay getting points. They kicked around the 49ers, some enormous favorites and a few “close your eyes and click the button” possibilities before landing on a final five.
The card:
Tampa Bay +3.5
Rams -3
Raiders +4.5
Patriots +6.5
Lions -3.5
Detroit made the cut largely because Carolina enters the matchup held together with medical tape and prayer, while the Lions bring Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown into a matchup with a defense dealing with significant injuries.
The Raiders also survived the final cut as home underdogs against Kansas City, while New England earned a spot getting points in a divisional game with Buffalo.
Will all five cash?
Absolutely no promises.
But Smalls and Ryan agreed on most of them, and considering how often that does not happen, we’re choosing to interpret it as either a very good sign or the beginning of an elaborate curse.
