Coach of the Year Market
Maybe we’re overreacting to Week 1, but it’s hard to believe that Ben Johnson is not the odds on favorite to win the Coach of the Year already. On one hand, it was just one game, but has there ever been a coach that has promised something and delivered as big as Johnson did on Sunday?
Ben Johnson came into the season saying that he wanted to set a record for points scored. His squad responded by hanging 59 on the Panthers and did so without ever letting up. It’s worth noting that the Panthers were a middle of the pack team in terms of scoring defense last year. They allowed just 23.0 points per game across the regular season.
Although some would worry about the injury risk to skill position players, they have so many weapons that it may not matter. Both D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai ran for 100+ yards. They had five different players with multiple catches and each had at least 24 yards. It feels like they’re too deep to fail.
And if Johnson calls his shot and then delivers a record breaking offensive season, will there be any denying him of this award?
