The Angels and the Red Sox gave us a second straight NRFI on Tuesday. We’ll look to keep that momentum rolling as we head off to Wednesday. We have some NRFI bets for September 9.
Wednesday is a getaway day for a lot of teams. That gives us action from afternoon until evening. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 9
Cleveland Guardians vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 6:35 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD
Broadcast – MLB TV
Kicking off the first NRFI for the day will be Shane Baz. The Orioles righty enters action with a 3.91 ERA on the year, but has looked a lot better than that number indicates lately. Over the last four starts, he’s posted a 3.38 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 24.0 innings. There’s a good chance he can keep the good times rolling with the Guardians coming to town. They rank 28th in the majors in terms of run scoring and have scored just eight total runs over their last three games (2.33 per game).
Baltimore is also not exactly the hottest team with the bats. They’ve scored just 12 runs over their last five games (2.40 per game). That dropped them into the bottom half of the league in terms of run scoring and the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring. That’s only going to get harder for them with Foster Griffin heading to the bump. He’s really found his footing with Cleveland. He has a 3.00 ERA over his last five starts and has a good history with the Orioles. He mowed nine of them down over 7.0 scoreless innings back in June and he could have an encore in this one.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 8: No (TBD)
Los Angeles Angels vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 6:45 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Angels and the Red Sox have cashed on the NRFI in back-to-back games and we’re going to ride the series one last time. A lot of our faith comes from the lack of offense from these two teams. The Red Sox are one of the worst first inning scoring teams and have scored just 3.00 runs per game over their last five games. The Angels have been worse than that with just 2.80 runs per game in their last three and they are 29th in the majors in run scoring – only ahead of the Mariners.
Not only are the offenses slumping, but we have another solid pitching matchup on Wednesday. Jake Bennett has posted a 2.25 ERA over his last two starts with 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings. Ryan Johnson gets the ball on the other side. While he doesn’t have the strikeout numbers that Bennett does, he has an even better recent run. He has a 1.63 ERA over his last five starts and he even gave us a blank opening frame against Boston back in July.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 8: No (TBD)
Bonus Pick: Astros/Phillies NRFI (TBD)
