Atlanta Braves vs Washington Nationals
Start Time: 1:05 PM EST
While the Braves have lost two straight, they are still the superior team in this matchup. They currently reign supreme in the NL East with the Nationals without much hope to make the playoffs. But it’s not just their current spot in the standings that has me on the Braves, it’s the pitching matchup for Wednesday.
Grant Holmes gets the ball for the Braves and he was awesome over the month of August. He posted a 3.04 ERA in the month and held three of his four opponents scoreless. Also, in 9.2 innings against the Nationals this year, he’s fanned 14 batters. You have to like his chances of keeping the Nationals quiet for the bulk of this one.
You could say the exact opposite for the Nationals. They might be a touch more hot over the last few games, but they’re also trotting out Jackson Kent. The lefty has started five games and posted a 5.59 ERA. In the 19.1 innings he’s worked, he’s walked 15 batters. With all of the power hitters that the Braves have, putting extra guys on base isn’t a good idea. As a result, I expect the Braves to win this one comfortably.
