And if the odds are any indication, we have a squash match for a main event. For my MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC Shanghai, I’ve got your winner for Saturday’s bantamweight main event. MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC Shanghai
UFC Fight Night: Nurmagomedov vs Song
Main Card Start Time: 6:00 AM EST
The squasher in this main event is one-time UFC Bantamweight Championship challenger Umar Nurmagomedov, whose only loss in 21 pro MMA fights came at the hands of the then-champion, Merab Dvalishvili. The squashee this weekend is native son Song Yadong.
And unfortunately, I agree with the odds in this matchup. While Yadong has solid takedown defense, he still gets taken down in fights. And getting taken down by Nurmagomedov is different than getting taken down by other opponents – the Dagestani doesn’t let you back up.
Plus, the Chinese fighter isn’t some dangerous striker with a puncher’s chance at winning – he hasn’t knocked anyone out in over three years. Nurmagomedov should roll to an easy W.
