MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 6

New York Mets vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 1:10 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – ESPN

Kicking off this NRFI is a familiar face to our play, just in a new place. Foster Griffin takes the mound as a member of the Guardians for the first time. The 2026 All-Star pitcher has a WHIP and ERA both in the top 15 of the entire league. In addition, he is 4th in wins and has racked up 116 strikeouts on the year. He gets an easy first start with the Mets coming to town. They rank 27th in the majors in runs scored per game and are nearly as bad when it comes to scoring in the first inning – they’re 26th in that category. He should cruise through the first, and the bulk of the game for that matter.

While the Mets are likely to give Griffin a warm welcome in terms of the opponent, the run support will take some getting used to. Griffin is coming from Washington, who ranks first in the majors in runs per game. He’s now backed by this Cleveland lineup, who is one of just three teams that is under 4.00 runs per game. They’re unlikely to change that tune against Nolan McLean. He carries a 3.29 ERA into action on Thursday and is in the top 10 of the league in strikeouts.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 6: No (-140)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago Cubs

First Pitch – 2:20 pm EST
Wrigley Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV

For our second NRFI, we have the Blue Jays at the plate first. Toronto is actually the only team in the majors who are scoring less runs than the Guardians. They are also the worst team in the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning. That’s music to the ears of David Peterson, who has found himself since heading over to the Cubs. Over his last four starts, he’s allowed just four total earned runs. That comes out to a 1.57 ERA in that span. He saw a nice uptick in his strikeout total last time out against the Yankees, which could help him here as well.

The Cubs are a much better run scoring team, but they do struggle a bit in the first inning. Despite being the second best run scoring team in the league, they rank 19th in the first inning. They’ll face Dylan Cease, who is currently second in AL Cy Young odds for this year at +110. His 2.41 ERA ranks 5th in the majors this year. Additionally, he’s only behind Jacob Misiorowski and Gavin Williams in terms of strikeouts. I’d take him to close out an NRFI against any team in this league.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 6: No (-145)

Bonus Pick: Tigers/Mariners NRFI (-125)

Looking to put together a three-pick parlay? This extra play may just be the piece that you’re looking for. Throw it together with the other two to net a three-pick parlay for +421.
