The World Cup rounds out in New Jersey on Sunday with Spain and Argentina vying for glory. They both got here in very different ways. Spain reached the finals on the back of shutdown defense that only saw them concede one goal – a 41st minute lapse against Belgium. Argentina has brought a little more of a sweat to things. They seem to fall behind constantly and battle their way back in.
The path that Spain has taken seems to be the stable one. It’s hard to imagine that, given as many trials as Argentina has faced, they would still come out on top. However, if we’re looking for a value play on the moneyline, it has to be the draw. Four of the last five World Cup finals have been tied after 90 minutes. Half of those have needed penalty kicks to solve things. With Argentina’s ability to get one late, it seems on script that this will be tied up and going into extra time.
As far as the total goes, I like the under here. Two of those aforementioned four extra time games entered the additional periods with a 0-0 tie. While both teams have an incredible front line, Spain’s defense is going to keep this thing low scoring. Expect them to get an early one and try to sit back a little following that. If they do, the under should be easy money.
