Daily World Cup Best Bets – July 5th

Brazil vs. Norway

Kickoff – 4:00 pm EST
MetLife Stadium – East Rutherford, New Jersey
Broadcast – FOX

This round of 16 game features two of the highest powered offenses that remain in the tournament. Each of them is averaging more than 2.00 goals per game so far, and are showing no signs of slowing down. The big difference for me in this one is the pace by which Brazil typically starts.

While they are still undefeated, if you look at the first and last games from Brazil in the four-game stretch, they struggled early. They conceded a goal in the 21st minute to Morocco and in the 29th to Japan. Each of those games required them to then turn up the physicality and take the game back. The difference in this one is that Norway is a notoriously tough team to turn up the physicality on. They are one of the biggest teams in the field and play as if they know that fact.

If Norway comes out with an early goal, look for Brazil to struggle to get back in it.

Best Bets for Brazil/Norway: Norway to Advance (+195) and Under 2.5 Goals (+120)

Mexico vs. England

Kickoff – 8:00 pm EST
Estadio Banorte – Mexico City, Mexico
Broadcast – FOX

Mexico has yet to concede a goal in this year’s tournament, and that has a lot of people talking. However, I think that shows a lot more about the level of opposition that they have faced than it does their defensive prowess. The South Korea shutout looked good until they were promptly shut out by South Africa. The Ecuador shutout was impressive, until you remember that they were shut out by Curacao earlier in group play.

Dealing with the likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham is going to be a rude awakening for the Mexican squad. They’re averaging over two goals per game and the advanced metrics suggest that they’ve been a little unlucky with finishes. I expect an offensive showing here in a big win for England.

Best Bets for Mexico/England: England ML (+145) and Over 2.5 Goals (-105)
