Daily World Cup Best Bets – June 21st
Tunisia vs. Japan
Kickoff – 12:00 am EST
Estadio BBVA – Guadalupe, Mexico

After watching the first two games from these squads, I’m scratching my head trying to figure out why the line is so close. Tunisia looked completely outmatched by Sweden. They had a bit of a burst on either side of the half, but outside of that, they looked uninspired at every turn. Their defense had gaping holes and the keeper play wasn’t sharp either. If you count their final tune-up as well, it was the second straight game where they allowed five goals.
Now they have to step in with a Japanese team that looked gritty against the Netherlands. Twice they fell behind in the game and responded within 15 minutes. You have to like the way Daichi Kamada was creating and distributing – it should lead to a couple goals and likely a comfortable win.
Best Bets for Tunisia/Japan: Japan -1.5 (+190) and Over 2.5 Goals (+100)
Spain vs. Saudi Arabia
Kickoff – 12:00 pm EST
Mercedes-Benz Stadium – Atlanta, Georgia

Spain was embarassed in the opener with a draw against Cape Verde. Despite having plenty of chances, they weren’t able to find the back of the net and finished 0-0. You have to imagine a pep talk from Luis de la Fuente and some small tactical changes are going to get them fired up here. The good news for them is that they draw a team with little-to-no offensive threat. That should allow them to open up here and get a few of those shots to go.
Best Bets for Spain/Saudi Arabia: Spain -2.5 (-110) and Over 3.5 Goals (+110)
Belgium vs. Iran
Kickoff – 3:00 pm EST
SoFi Stadium – Inglewood, California

Belgium was one of my early picks for a deep run in this tournament, but they really didn’t look the part against Egypt. Sure, some of it was unlucky as they outpossessed Egypt in the draw and underplayed their expected goal. Still, they only put two dangerous shots on net and needed an own goal to bail them out. Hopefully they’ve learned their lesson and get Romelu Lukaku involved a touch earlier so he can spark that offense.
Regardless of who is on the field and how much they need to change, I do think they’re the better team in this one. However, with how stagnant their offense looked at times and as stingy as Iran can be, you have to like this one to stay low scoring.
Best Bets for Belgium/Iran: Belgium ML (-235) and Under 2.5 Goals (-125)
Uruguay vs. Cape Verde
Kickoff – 6:00 pm EST
Hard Rock Stadium – Miami Gardens, Florida

The story of Cape Verde is one of the best we have so far in this World Cup. The island of just over half of a million people managed to put together a squad that kept a heavily favored Spain team without a goal. Their keeper, Josimar Dias, gained 14 million Instagram followers overnight and everybody is talking about the game.
However, all of that hype is being baked into these odds, and you can expect a letdown. Uruguay got through CONMEBOL qualifying with goals against Peru, Brazil, Venezuela and kept a game close with Argentina. They also dominated Saudi Arabia despite the result. With 1.72 expected goals in that game, I think you’ll see a similar offensive effort here and the fun story ends.

New Zealand vs. Egypt
Kickoff – 9:00 pm EST
BC Place – Vancouver, Canada
Broadcast – FS1
Egypt’s opener gave me a lot of confidence in what they’re able to put together. Against a tough Belgian team, they played physical and put some pressure on the defense. Plus, having Mohamed Salah up front, even if he’s not a prime version of himself, if still dangerous at all times.
New Zealand put some offense on Iran as well, but it was mostly in short bursts. They’ll have more trouble making good on those chances here and it sould lead to an Egypt win.
