MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 17

Detroit Tigers vs. Houston Astros

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Tigers come to the plate first on Wednesday and their bats have been far from good. They rank in the bottom third of the league in terms of run production and have scored two or less in two of their last three games (going into Tuesday). Those poor trends can only be magnified by Peter Lambert getting the ball. Lambert is having a banner year with Houston, having allowed two or less runs in each of his last three outings. That’s helped him drop his ERA to 3.47. I like his chances to keep the Tigers quiet early.

The bottom of the first will feature slightly better bats. After a slow start, the Astros have played their way up to the middle of the pack with their scoring. They, too, have struggled lately though – scoring just three runs in the last two games. Casey Mize isn’t the name they’d like to see on the bump either. He has just a 2.27 ERA on the year and has allowed just two runs in his last 16.2 innings. He’ll keep that going to cash the NRFI here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 17: No (TBD)

Los Angeles Angels vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

First Pitch – 3:40 pm EST
Chase Field – Phoenix, Arizona
Broadcast – MLB TV

We have another team who falls in the bottom third of the league in scoring here with Arizona. They have scored just 10 runs in their last three games and that’s dropped them amongst the final 10 teams in the league. I’d like them in a lot of NRFI situations, but especially against Sam Aldegheri. In limited work this year, he’s sporting just a 2.12 ERA. That includes a stellar start against a tough Tampa Bay squad last time out.

The Angels have started slow this year – their 29-44 record as clear evidence. Their ability to put runs up on the board are really streaky. Lately, they haven’t been all that good and Eduardo Rodriguez shouldn’t help matters. He comes into Wednesday’s action with a 2.55 ERA on the year. He’s allowed two or less runs in four of his last five starts. He should be able to get us a quick three outs in this one.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 17: No (TBD)
