MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 16
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 6:45 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV
This NRFI play starts off with a Blue Jays lineup that has been struggling to score runs. Not only do they rank in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring, but they also sit all the way down in 26th when it comes to first inning offense. They’ve managed just four total runs over the last two games and now face a tough customer in Payton Tolle. Tolle enters with a 2.70 ERA on the year and 54 strikeouts in just 53.1 innings. With as bad as the Blue Jays have been, three quick outs should be a breeze for the big man.
Closing out the NRFI will be the Red Sox at the plate. They are another team I love to fade with their bats the way they have been. Their 4.03 runs per game have them in 25th place in MLB. They’re also tied for the worst first inning production in the majors. We’ll pair that with Dylan Cease getting the ball on Tuesday. Cease not only has a sub-3.00 ERA on the year, but he ranks third in the majors in strikeouts. There will likely be a lot of swing and miss early here, leading to a blank frame.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 16: No (-150)
Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees
First Pitch – 7:05 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, NY
Broadcast – MLB TV
While we had a couple of offenses to fade in the first game, this is a lot scarier. The White Sox are fresh off a series with the Braves where they had hot bats nearly the whole time. The Yankees, meanwhile, are top five in just about every offensive category. Despite those facts, I like the NRFI here due to the pitching matchup.
The White Sox will call upon Davis Martin, who has maintained a 2.41 ERA on the year. Not only that, but he has more than a strikeout per inning and has logged 78.1 already. He’s fresh off keeping the Braves scoreless for 6.0 innings and did so without issuing a walk. Even with the tough offense in front of him, he should be able to get out of the first unscathed.
The hometown squad calls on Gerrit Cole. Cole is early in his season, but is looking at a 2.45 ERA. While he’s pitched only four times, he already has his first 10 strikeout game and has kept two of those opponents scoreless. His stuff looks back to where it needs to be and that should help us cash here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 16: No (-125)
