MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 12

Detroit Tigers vs. New York Mets

First Pitch – 6:10 pm EST
Citi Field – Queens, NY
Broadcast – MLB TV

Kicking off the NRFI plays for Tuesday will be Freddy Peralta. The Mets big offseason signing has lived up to the hype for the squad so far. He’s sporting a solid 3.12 ERA and has fanned 43 batters in 43.1 innings. Plus, he’s coming off of an outing at Coors Field where he managed to stay scoreless over 5.0 innings of work. With a easier defensive environment and a below average hitting Detroit team, Peralta should be able to get this one started right.

Closing out the first of our NRFI plays is going to be a pitcher that might instill a bitless confidence. Jack Flaherty’s ERA certainly isn’t in the same ballpark as Peralta’s, but he has been solid in the majority of his starts. Over the last six times out, Flaherty has allowed two or less runs in four of them. He’ll get the added benefit of having one of the worst offenses in the league. The Mets rank 29th in the league with just 3.48 runs per game – one of four teams that haven’t cracked the 4.00 mark.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 12: No (-135)

Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros

First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

We cashed on this series on Monday and we’ll double down on that action here as well.

The Astros sent out Tatsuya Imai, who is fresh off the IL on Tuesday. Early in the season, he was cruising. His last start before he was hurt saw him go 5.2 scoreless and strike out nine Athletics. They gave him plenty of time to rest up and return to form for this one. Plus, they brought him back for a perfect matchup with Seattle. They rank 25th in runs scored per game and have been below average in the first inning.

On the other side, Bryan Woo hits the hill for us. He’s coming off his best outing of the year, where he held the red-hot Braves to just one hit and no runs over 6.0 innings. Despite some early ugliness on the year, that brought his ERA down to just 4.02. Houston has a solid offense, but they are a far cry from what the Braves are putting up. As a result, I trust Woo to get us three quick outs in this one.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 12: No (-125)
