MMA Regional Pick of the Week: PFL Sioux Falls
PFL Heavyweight Fight: Renan Ferreira vs Sergey Bilostenniy
Card Start Time: Saturday (5/2), 7:00pm EST (ESPN 2)
On the main card of PFL Sioux Falls, we have a pair of heavyweights who are looking to stake their claim in a wide open division. Renan Ferreira returns from the first time since faltering against Vadim Nemkov. Meanwhile, Sergey Bilostenniy looks to build on the momentum following his first round KO over UFC veteran Karl Williams.
Despite the recent results, I like Ferreira a lot in this one. The primary reason is that I think this fight will mostly take place on the feet. Although Bilostenniy is Russian, he does not come forward with the wrestling-heavy style that you might expect. Instead, he leans much more on his own hands and is looking to turn things into a brawl. That should play right into the hands of the Brazilian.
Ferreira also enjoys a standup fight and holds a number of advantages in those. Firstly, the reach is wildly different, with Ferreira holding a 10 inch advantage in that department. He also likely has a power advantage, as we saw when he knocked out Ryan Bader in less than a minute.
Because of the recent losses, we can get Ferreira at a discounted rate on Saturday, and it’s one we should jump at.
