MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 29
Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins
First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, MN
Broadcast – MLB TV
Our matinee in the NRFI market comes from up North with the Mariners visiting the Twins. First to the bump will be Taj Bradley, who has been well above average for Minnesota so far this year. In 34.0 innings, he’s racked up 37 strikeouts – all while keeping a sub-3.00 ERA in tact. He struggled a little bit last time out, but that appears to have just been a run-in with some high-powered bats. That should be less of a problem with Seattle coming to town. They rank in the bottom third of the league in runs scored with just 4.21 per game. Look for Bradley to find his footing again and get this one started right.
The bottom of the first has another sharp starter toeing the rubber. George Kirby gets the start for the Mariners and he too is rocking a sub-3.00 ERA on the season. While he doesn’t quite have the strikeout numbers that Bradley has, that’s a little less in the bag for the Mariners starting rotation. Although his swing and miss stuff is not at the top of the charts, neither has Minnesota’s abaility to score early in games. They haven’t put up a first inning run in four games and have racked up a 2-10 record over their last 12 games.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 29: No (-140)
Detroit Tigers vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:07 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Coming to the hill first in this one is JR Ritchie, who makes just the second start of his professional career. The first one saw him throw 7.0 innings and strike out seven batters in the process. He allowed just two earned runs in that game and both of them came on solo home runs. I love that against a Detroit team that does not seem to have the power needed to do that damage. They average just 1.07 home runs per game on the year.
On the other side of things, it may be a bit scary to play an NRFI with the Braves swinging the bats. They have been the best run scoring team this year and it seems like they won’t be stopped. However, we have two things going for us here. Firstly, they have not been nearly as dominant in the first inning as they have in the entire game. They rank 17th in first inning run scoring, while ranking 1st in overall scoring. Secondly, they face back-to-back Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, who carries a 2.71 ERA into action on Wednesday with 38 strikeouts in just 36.1 innings.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 29: No (-145)
