While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFA 230
LFA Heavyweight Fight: Nyle Bartling vs Charlie Cleveland
Card Start Time: Friday (4/3), 7:30pm EST (VICE TV)
In Friday’s newly crowned main event, we have a heavyweight clash that has an interesting style matchup. On one side we have a less proven fighter with big power in his hands. On the other side we have the guy who has been through the ringer with some dings in the fender, but brings the grind wherever he goes.
We’re going to ride with Bartling in this one. His wrestling game has always put him right there in fights – even ones he’s lost. He also doesn’t just settle on top, but does good damage and looks for submissions. His arm triangle choke in particular is strong and he moves to it quickly.
On the other side, we just saw Charlie Cleveland flatten Ben Wunder with a jab. However, if you run it back just one fight prior, you’ll see his fight at Carnage Fight Series 5 against Cam Graham. Graham had amassed a gnarly 9-21 record in his career, and the stocky heavyweight still had success grappling against Cleveland.
If low-level regional heavyweights can grapple with Cleveland, look for Bartling to get his submission game working early.
