MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – March 28
Atletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays
First Pitch – 3:07 pm EST
Rogers Centre – Toronto, ON
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Athletics came out of the gate slow in their opener against the Blue Jays. They not only didn’t record a run over the first three innings, but they also didn’t have a hit. They did all of that while recording six strikeouts in the first nine batters. They did eventually break all of that up with a solo homer in the fourth, but also recorded two more strikeouts. Following a bout of making Kevin Gausman lookk like Nolan Ryan, they’ll face Dylan Cease in his Toronto debut. That’s definitely not going to make this look easier for them and should give us a clean top of the first.
The bottom of the first should be a bit more of a sweat, but it’s not like the Blue Jays came out firing either. In fact, the top six guys in their lineup combined to go 1-for-22 on Opening Day. The bottom of their order managed to manufacture a few runs for them, but that’s not a thing we’re worried about in the NRFI market. Additionally, I have faith in Jeffery Springs, who looked good down the stretch last year. Not only did he look solid across the games, but he also gave us a clean first inning in five of his last six starts. Let’s look for one again on Saturday.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for March 28: No (+100)
Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV
This is another series where we saw offenses come out of the gate slow. The Rockies managed just one hit over the first three innings on Opening Day and it was promptly erased by a double play immediately after. They’ll flop to trying to hit off a slightly less experienced arm on Saturday. While Eury Perez might not have the track record that Sandy Alcantara does, he was a big strikeout threat last year. He fanned 105 in just 95.1 innings and this Rockies lineup is going to be primed to whiff a lot. As a result, I think he can give us a clean first inning.
Michael Lorenzen gets the start for the Rockies in game two. While he was up and down last season, he showed some nice flashes in this year’s World Baseball Classic. He started and picked up the win for Team Italy in their upset victory over Team USA. In that game, he threw 4.2 innings of scoreless ball with just two hits allowed. In fact, the first hit he allowed in that one was a two-out single to Bobby Witt Jr. in the third inning. This Marlins team isn’t exactly loaded with sluggers up top and should be a cake walk in comparison.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for March 28: No (-135)
