MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFA 229
LFA Featherweight Fight: Renan Freitas vs Leandro Solano
Card Start Time: Friday (3/27), 5:30pm EST (VICE TV)
When the LFA kicks off in Sao Paulo this weekend, there are tons of great prospects from South American throwing down. In one battle, we have a Chute Boxe fighter from just down the road welcoming a Venezuelan looking to play spoiler.
Renan Freitas is a perfect embodiment of what it means to be a Chute Boxe fighter. He likes to come forward, get in his opponent’s face, and push the pace. He looks talented on the feet and has shown above average takedown defense for someone at this level. The combination of those skills should all play up against Solano.
Solano leaves no question as to what he wants to do. The man is looking for a body lock with the hopes of dragging this to the mat. He has strong jiu jitsu skills, but has looked questionable when he can’t get it there. In his lone loss, he failed on takedowns and tired quickly as his opponent took over. If he can’t deal with that pace and some failed takedowns, Freitas is the last opponent he wants to see on the Brazilian regional scene.
The added bonus of this play is that the disparity in terms of records makes Freitas out to be less legit. As a result, we’ll take him at plus-money in what should be a robbery of the books.
