Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Vegas 113
UFC bantamweight Fight: Jakub Wiklacz vs Muin Gafurov
Start Time: Saturday (2/7) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
In one of the very first fights of the night, we have a showdown sure to get the grappling enthusiasts excited. Jakub Wiklacz came over from Polish promotion KSW and picked up a huge win in his debut, and Muin Gafurov has found his footing with back-to-back wins himself.
Despite the momentum that Gafurov has built, I’m riding with the underdog in this one. If you’ve watching Wiklacz’s work in KSW, you know that he has a dominant top game. He’s hard to back up on the feet and he keeps the pressure high. In his lone fight with Patchy Mix, we didn’t see so much of the wrestling. However, his jiu jistu game led to sweeps, submission attempts, and ultimately rounds won.
The reason I think that plays against Gafurov is that the Syndicate MMA product has struggled with that style in the past. When he fought John Castaneda, he was taken down three times and struggled to gain control himself. Even in his recent win over Kyung Ho Kang, he struggled – being taken down three times and giving up nearly a full round worth of control.
Look for Wiklacz to get his wrestling going and to pick up the plus-money for us.
