The NBA Summer League tips off in Salt Lake City, Utah today. Utah is usually an appetizer for the action until we get to Las Vegas, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t looking at some angles to find a winner. There’s one spot in particular where I think we have a great line. Here’s my NBA Summer League prediction and best bet for Saturday, July 5th.
NBA Summer League Predictions & Preview For Saturday, July 5th
Philadelphia 76ers vs Utah Jazz
Start Time: 9:00 PM EST
When I first set out to handicap the Summer League rosters, I really liked what I saw from the 76ers. A good Summer League team has top rookies and a few guys with NBA experience. The 76ers have VJ Edgecombe and Johni Broome, who have both been rostered for the summer run. They also have Jalen Hood-Schifino, who has had plenty of run in the association.
However, there is just nothing that is going to match this Utah roster – particularly playing at home. The controversial Ace Bailey will be there, and he likely has a lot to prove to the Utah crowd. They also added undrafted free agent, RJ Luis to the fold, as well as Adama Sonogo from the Bulls.
To stack the deck even more in Utah’s favor, they also have NBA players well beyond what usually gets on a summer league roster. Kyle Filipowski will get some limited run after posting 13 double doubles in the NBA this past season. Also listed on the roster is Brice Sensabaugh, Isaiah Collier and Cody Williams.
Even if these guys just get a taste of Summer League action, there is plenty that should get the Jazz the win and the cover to kick things off.
