MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 30

Cincinnati Reds vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV

In our first NRFI of the day, we’ll head out to historic Fenway Park in Boston. The Red Sox host the Reds, who will get a crack at Garrett Crochet. I’d take Crochet to blank just about any team in the majors right now. He carries a 2.06 ERA into Monday’s action and has 135 strikeouts – which puts him second in the majors. He’s also coming off an outing where he gave the Red Sox 7.0 scoreless innings against the Angels. He added another ten strikeouts in that one. So while the Reds are a formidable offense, I like Crochet to keep the first blank here.

In the bottom of the first, we’ll get out second look at Chase Burns. The powerful righty had to make his MLB debut against the Yankees, which is an offense much better than the Red Sox. He would give them three scoreless before eventually getting hit up a bit the second time through the order. At the end of the day, he threw 5.0 innings and allowed three runs while striking out eight. Those are promising numbers for the young flamethrower. With the Red Sox being held to three or less runs in four of their last five games, there seems to be plenty of room for Burns to have another big game.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 30: No (-150)

Kansas Ctiy Royals vs. Seattle Mariners

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast –MLB TV

We kick off our second NRFI play with the Royals at the plate. That’s ideal for us as their bats have been quiet all season. They rank dead last in terms of run scoring with just 3.30 runs per game. They’ve been even worse lately with just 14 runs over their last five games (2.8 per game). They’ll face George Kirby in this one. His surface numbers don’t look great for us, but he’s started to settle in as of late. He’s allowed two runs or fewer in four of his five June starts. As long as he comes with that same version of himself, he should easily blank the Royals in the first.

The Mariners haven’t exactly been slugging lately either. While they have numbers that are much better over the course of the season, their last five have been nearly as rough as the last five for the Royals. They’ve scored just 16 runs in that span – which comes out to 3.2 runs per game. Things won’t get easier for them as they face Michael Wacha. He has a 3.33 ERA on the year and has been doing a stellar job at keeping opposing hitters in the park. That’ll be important with some big boppers at the top of this lineup.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 30: No (-130)
