MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 28
San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV
Kicking off our NRFI plays for Saturday is an afternoon game on the south side. The White Sox will try to get things started right for us when they send out Adrian Houser. After being DFA’s by the Mets late last season, Houser signed to pitch for the White Sox. He’s managed to get six starts and looks way better than expected. He sports a 2.27 ERA on the year, holding every opponent to three or less runs. When we add in that the Giants are in the bottom third of the majors in terms of first inning scoring, there’s a lot to like about the top half of this inning.
The bottom of the inning is more of a fade of the bats in Chicago. They currently rank 28th in the majors in run scoring with just 3.43 runs per game. They’ll have to try to buck that trend against Robbie Ray, which won’t be easy. The Giants lefty has been great with a 2.83 ERA and 104 strikeouts in just 92.1 innings. He’s run into a rougher patch (at least for him) over the last few games, but it’s nothing that playing the White Sox won’t fix.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 28: No (-130)
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, MO
Broadcast –MLB TV
The top of the first is always scary when it’s the Dodgers swinging. We tried for an NRFI on Friday in this series and they upset the bid. However, I’m going to double down and give it a try with Seth Lugo on the bump. He has a 2.93 ERA on the year and has been even more lights out as of late. Over his last three starts (18.0 innings), he’s allowed just two earned runs. That’s good for a 1.00 ERA in that span. If anyone is going to stop the top of this Dodgers lineup, it’ll be Lugo.
The bottom of the inning sees the third start from Shohei Ohtani. He may not throw very many innings in this one, as he’s only thrown 1.0 in each of his first two outings. However, we only care about that first inning. There’s not much data out there to say how good Shohei will be, but I trust him against this Kansas City offense that has been pretty ugly this year. They rank dead last in the majors in runs scored and are in the bottom third of the league in first inning runs.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 28: No (-130)
