MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 15

Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Nationals Park – Washington, DC
Broadcast – MLB TV

The top of the first is perhaps the easiest part of any Sunday NRFI. The Marlins will head to the plate to get their hacks against MacKenzie Gore. The Marlins have been well below average at the plate this season. They rank 23rd in the majors with just 4.10 runs per game. Facing Gore will likely not help matters. He’s been lights out this year with a 2.88 ERA. More impressive have been just how sharp his strikeout stuff has been. He’s second in the majors with 114 strikeouts in just  81.1 innings – all while walking just 22 batters. He should be able to roll through three outs in this one.

The bottom of the inning has a pitcher that doesn’t quite have the same track record as Gore. Eury Perez returned from a long layoff to make his first last week. While he gave up four runs in 3.0 innings, he looked sharp from the early parts of the game. In the first two innings, he struck out three and only allowed one hit. It was only after he tired that he started to get hit around. Now, having been conditioned a bit more, I expect to see a better version of him. He’ll get to show that off against another below average offense from Washington.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 15: No (-130)

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV

For the fifth straight day we’re rolling the dice with a Yankees’ NRFI. While they are some of the most impressive bats in the majors, we’ve cashed on three of the four NRFIs we’ve played on them. A lot of that is due to the fact that their potent offense is just not been clicking lately. Over the last three games, they’ve only managed to stretch across five total runs (1.67 per game). Brayan Bello will try to keep that in tact for us. He’s got a good chance to do so as the first inning has been clean for him in four straight starts.

The bottom of the inning should be a breeze as Max Fried toes the rubber looking for his 10th win. Over 14 starts this year, Fried has only allowed more than two runs one time (and that was to the Dodgers). As a result, he carries a 1.84 ERA into action on Sunday. He’s struck out 81 batters in 88.0 innings and has a 0.93 WHIP. Additionally, he has a great history against Boston with 2-0 in two appearances with 18 strikeouts in 12.0 innings.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 15: No (-115)
