After a rare week off, the UFC is back up and running this coming weekend with UFC Fight Night: Machado Garry vs Prates (aka UFC Kansas City). Since it’s a “road game” for the UFC (not a UFC Apex event), we get a pretty solid fight card. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC Kansas City, we’re headed to the welterweight main event. UFC Fight Night: Machado vs Garry (AKA UFC Kansas City)
Start Time: 6:00 PM EST (ESPN2/ESPN+)
This Fight Night, at least to my jaded eyes, is a very chalky one. I’m having trouble finding too many dogs I’m willing to get in on. So I’m going with the dog in the main event, Carlos Prates, who is taking on Ian Machado Garry.
Prates has plenty going for him in this fight, mostly his off-the-charts knockout power and explosiveness – he’s won 10 straight fights via T/KO. He’s also longer than Machado Garry (four-inch reach advantage). And Machado Garry is stepping into this fight on just a few weeks’ notice, while Prates has been in fight camp for a normal length of time – he was originally scheduled for a fight at UFC 314.
