MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 18
Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays
First Pitch – 7:07 pm EST
Rogers Centre – Toronto, ON
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Mariners have become one of my very favorite teams when it comes to betting the NRFI. That’s because their hitting is weak and their starting pitching has looked phenomenal. One of those pitchers who has looked good so far has been Bryan Woo, who gets the ball on Friday. He carries a 2.84 ERA into action and has allowed just one run in two of his last three outings. Between his dominance and the fact that Seattle ranks 23rd in first inning runs per game (0.37 per) – we should be in a good place to set up this NRFI.
The Blue Jays aren’t a bad team to pair with them here. They actually have a matching first inning scoring average of 0.37, tied for 23rd place. Additionally, they’re in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring across the entire game. They also have a great situation on the bump today with Bowden Francis getting the ball. He has kept his opponents scoreless over the first two innings in every start this year. I doubt the Mariners are the ones to buck that trend.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 18: No (-125)
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Texas Rangers
First Pitch – 8:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington. TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
This game leaves us much more reliant on the pitching matchup than the one prior. However, that’s a fine thing because we have a great pair of arms in this one. The top of the first we’ll get to see Jacob deGrom, who has been solid just about all year. His ERA is a little bit high on the year, but his early game has been mostly fine. He’s kept opponents scoreless in two of the three first innings that he’s thrown.
The bottom of the first should be even less of a sweat thanks to Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He carries a 1.23 ERA into Friday’s action with no runs allowed in either of this last two starts. In addition, they’ll also fave much easier bats to keep quiet. The Rangers have had a second straight slow start to the season. In the short sample size they have averaged just 3.32 runs per game, which puts them in 27th in the league.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 18: No (-125)
