MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – March 29

Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Chase Field – Phoenix, AZ
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top of the first, we see the Cubs come to the plate and that’s a good things for the NRFI right now. They’ve played more games than the rest of the league thanks to the Tokyo Series. In the four games they’ve played, they’ve yet to score in the first inning. In fact, scoring has been an issue for them across the board as they’ve averaged only 3.75 runs per game. Having managed only a single run on Friday, I like their chances to come out flat against Brandon Pfaadt to kick off the weekend.

In the home half of this one, I expect Shota Imanaga to be able to finish off this NRFI for us. He looked great in his Tokyo Series start, where he threw four scoreless against the Dodgers with a pair of strikeouts. He also didn’t allow a single hit in that time. The Diamondbacks offense has looked much stronger than the Cubs at this point, and have already scored in the first inning this year. However, I think the strength of Imagana gives me enough confidence that we’ll cash this NRFI on Saturday.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for March 29: No (-130)

Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners

First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV

We rode this series on Friday and I see no reason not to ride it again.

In the top of the first, the Athletics get their hacks against Bryce Miller. Miller has a break through 2024 – posting an ERA just under 3.00 and a WHIP just under 1.00. Although the Athletics posted seven runs on Friday, this isn’t an offense I inherently believe in. There are a couple of guys in there who look poised to put them in a better position than they were in last year, but nothing that should bother a quality guy like Miller.

In the bottom half of the inning, I’d take just about any pitcher to keep the Mariners quiet early. After a down year with the bats in 2024, they’ve kept that pace to kick off this season. They have managed just four total runs in their first two games. They’ll try to break that against Osvaldo Bido, who was actually quite effective as a starter last year. He really settled in to that roll in August, where he got five full starts and posted just a 1.55 ERA. He’s perhaps one of the more underrated rotation guys out there right now, and certainly should be able to blank Seattle.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for March 29: No (-145)
