NBA First Scorer Props – March 13
Washington Wizards vs. Detroit Pistons
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Little Caesars Arena – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – NBA TV
The Pistons, despite their rough tip average, are pretty good on the first bucket this year. They currently rank 19th in the NBA with a 47.0% tip win rate. However, they still manage to come in at #6 when it comes to first bucket success rate. That shows that their defense and shot selection – particularly early in the game – have been good. In this game, they may not even have to worry about that. Not only do the Wizards have a worse first bucket success rate, it is far worse. They rank 23rd in the NBA with an average that is 13.8% lower than the Pistons. For those reasons, we’ll back the Pistons in this one.
We went into the last Pistons game backing Cade Cunningham and we’re going to do it again. He had taken two of the first three Pistons’ shots over their last three games, and then again took one of the first two in Tuesday’s action. It seems like the wrong time to get off that horse, so we’ll take a ride again on Thursday.
First Scorer Bet for March 13: Cade Cunningham (+400)
Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
United Center – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – NBA TV
We’re back on backing the Bulls again. At first I thought the fade game was back on, as Nikola Vucevic and his abysmal tip win rate was healthy again. However, the Bulls opted to keep Zach Collins in the starting lineup, which changes everything. His 58.3% win rate on the tips outpaces Nic Claxton by 11.4%. With tip winners getting 65.8% of the first buckets this year, that should be enough to back them. It also shouldn’t hurt that the Bulls regularly outplay their tip numbers on the first bucket success rate.
If you look at recent games, Josh Giddey is the name that seems to be getting the bulk of the work. Sadly, he won’t be in action on Thursday. If we look for someone who might see the lion’s share of his work, why not consider Matas Buzelis. The Bulls’ rookie has been featured in the first three shots of the game in two of the last three games. Not only that, but he also took the first shot in one of those games.
First Scorer Bet for March 13: Matas Buzelis (+1000)
