DePaul +13.5 vs. St. John’s
I have clamored about this St. John’s group not too long along and will be fading them in this spot today. Rick Pitino has done one hell of a job with this St. John’s squad, turning them from an 18-15 season two years ago to the 10th team in the country as of today. If there’s one thing St. John’s can do, it’s lock opposing offenses down with their tenacious defense.
The defense-first style of play tends not to work come NCAA Tournament time. Eventually, you have to establish some consistent team offense down the stretch, and this is something the Johnnies have failed to do. KenPom ranks St. John’s as the 79th-best offense in the country, which simply won’t cut it in March.
Rick Pitino’s bunch is coming off three games in which their defenses have bailed out their less-than-impressive offense. I think this is an opportunity for DePaul to keep the game within striking distance, especially a home. I’ll take the points here.
