College Basketball Picks February 16

St. John’s -6.5 vs. Creighton

What a year it has been for the Johnnies in the second season of the Rick Pitino experience. This St. John’s squad is 21-4 and in first place in the Big East. According to KenPom, Rick Pitino is coaching the number two defense in the country. Offensively, this team is average, although they do have some talented guard play with RJ Luis Jr. and Kadary Richmond.

St. John’s is coming off a tough loss to a much improved Villanova squad last time out.  They are also looking to get revenge against a Creighton team that gave them a loss on December 31st. I think Pitino has his team ready to play with three full days to prepare.

The Johnnies should be able to swarm a Creighton offense that has taken a substantial step back from last season. This is also a big game for Big East tournament seeding. A St. John’s win will ensure they keep the top seed in the conference.
