College Basketball Picks January 14
Duke -23.5 vs. Miami
The Blue Devils have quietly put together a ten-game winning streak. Given how down the ACC is this year, Duke’s ACC schedule should be an absolute cakewalk. Miami is another ACC team that is down right now. Jim Larrañaga stepped down as head coach, and the team has nose-dived.
The Canes have lost five consecutive games and are a brutal 4-12 against the spread this season. Defensively, Miami is one of the worst teams in the country. KenPom ranks them 308th in defensive rating. That is shockingly bad for a typically solid basketball program.
Duke, on the other hand, is a defensive juggernaut. Kenpom ranks them second in the nation in defensive rating. On the other side of the ball, Cooper Flagg is finally coming to his own as a scorer and facilitator. His numbers have always been solid, but he looks way more comfortable on the court now than he did at the beginning of the season.
Duke should dominate in this spot; I’m just hoping they don’t pull their starters too early in this one.
