The UFC is away until the new year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great places to lay some MMA wagers. MMA on New Year’s Eve is a Japanese tradition, and this year is no different. RIZIN 49 comes to us from Saitama, Japan, and is sure to be a good one. MMA Prelim Pick of the Week: RIZIN 49
RIZIN 49 – 130lbs Catchweight Fight: Jose Torres vs Makoto Shinryu
Start Time: Tuesday, 12am EST (RIZIN PPV)
Makoto Shinryu’s moneyline has been consistently climbing since it posted, but I still like the number on the board today. The bottom line is that he’s a high level wrestler who has been in there with some of the toughest guys RIZIN has to offer. ‘Shorty’ Torres has relied heavily on his wreslting game in the past, which I think will limit his offense here.
Additionally, if this is a stalemate in the wrestling department, I favor Shinryu on the feet. He’s a touch faster and definitely more aggressive. Meanwhile, it looks like Torres lost a step or two over the course of his last two fights – back-to-back losses at the hands of Nkosi Ndebele.
With an advantage in both of those places and Torres on a losing streak, I like Shinryu to keep it rolling here.
