2024 Season Today’s Bowl Games Best Bets – Tuesday, December 24th
Hawai’i Bowl: South Florida vs. San Jose State (-3)
We have one game to consider for the Tuesday, December 24th, bowl game bets. South Florida and San Jose State face off in the Hawai’i Bowl on Christmas Eve at 5:00 PM Pacific, 8:00 PM Eastern. South Florida finished 6-6 straight up and against the spread (ATS). San Jose State finished 7-5 straight up and 6-6 ATS. Both teams hoped for a little more this season than a .500 middle-of-the-road type of season.
South Florida finished the season with a bit of an easier schedule. They had wins over Tulsa and Charlotte and losses against Navy and Rice to close out the year. The Bulls averaged 31.4 points, 226.8 passing yards, and 191.3 rushing yards per game on average. On defense, they allowed an average of 29 points, 278.7 passing yards, and 157.9 rushing yards.
San Jose State finished the season with some nice wins over Stanford and Oregon State. They also lost to Boise State and UNLV, two teams who had very successful seasons. On offense, the Spartans averaged 27.5 points, 325.3 passing yards, and 81.4 rushing yards per game. On defense, they allowed an average of 26.4 points, 232.7 passing yards, and 156.3 rushing yards per game.
Neither one of these defenses played very well this year and the total for the game, 63, reflects that. It wouldn’t surprise me to see this game surpass that number and go well into the 70’s or 80’s. San Jose State has a much better passing offense and South Florida has a much better rushing offense. It will be up to the defenses to try and slow the opposing team’s strengths.
There have been so many favorites covering so far this bowl season. I don’t want to continue picking favorites since seeing a dog win in the bowl game tends to be more fun. However, I don’t think the narrative changes with this game. San Jose State is also a pipeline college for players from Hawai’i and this will be a chance for some of them to play in front of their friends and family for the first time.
Today’s Bowl Games Best Bets: San Jose State (-3) – they’re used to playing in Hawaii and their passing attack will be too much for the Bulls to stop.
