Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars Preview and Predictions

It’s an AFC South showdown on Sunday at Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. CJ Stroud leads his Houston Texans into this game for the team’s second face-off of the season. The Texans outlasted the Jaguars in Week 4 winning 24-20. Let’s dive in and take a look at this Texans-Jaguars preview and predictions.

Houston has lost three of their last four games after a 6-2 start. They now sit at 7-5 but still hold a two game lead over the Indianapolis Colts for the AFC South lead. The Texans will be missing DT Folorunso Fatuski and DB Jalen Pitre. Everyone else appears primed to play.

For Jacksonville, it looks like the return of Trevor Lawrence, who has missed the last two games for the Jaguars at quarterback. They are just 2-9 on the season having lost their last four games in a row. Linebacker Yasir Abdullah is their only player ruled out on Friday.

Joe Mixon Over 82.5 Rushing Yards (-113)

Joe Mixon has had a stellar first season as a Houston Texan. In six of his nine starts as a Houston Texan, Mixon has crossed the century mark on the ground. Mixon wasn’t available during the Texans Week 4 matchup against Jacksonville, but Cam Akers was able to get 53 yards on the ground.

Good running backs have feasted on this Jacksonville rushing defense this year. Saquon Barkley went for 159 yards against them, Josh Jacobs added 127 of his own. Aaron Jones and David Montgomery also teed off on the Jaguars. Expect the same from Mixon on Sunday.

Houston Texans -3.5 (-105)

The Texans covered this spread at home back in Week 4 without Joe Mixon on the field. Houston is 6-4 over their last 10 games ATS against Jacksonville and this game is the perfect spot for them. They’ve been in a bit of a slump and now they face a bad Jacksonville team. With the Dolphins, Chiefs and Ravens on deck, Houston will use this game to get right.
