NBA First Scorer Props – November 11
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Chicago Bulls
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
United Center – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – NBA TV
You aren’t going to find a tip discrepancy like this – perhaps ever. The Bulls have managed just one of the ten tips that they’ve taken this year, and that’s right on par with what we expect from Nikola Vucevic in recent years. On the other side, Jarrett Allen has consistently been one of the best at it. He’s grabbed nine of eleven this year, which gives him a 71.8% advantage over Vucevic. With the tip winner getting roughly two-thirds of the first buckets this year, and us already knowing the outcome of this tip, our play should be on a Cavalier.
The Cavaliers’ lineup is a tough one to handicap when you’re looking for an early shot. They have six first buckets on the year spread evenly between the three guys taking the early shots – Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley. Handicapping what the Bulls allow would show that about half of their surrendered first buckets have been three-pointers. They also concede to guards more than to big men. With those things being true, we’ll take a stab at Darius Garland in this one.
First Scorer Bet for November 11: Darius Garland (+600)
Washington Wizards vs. Houston Rockets
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Toyota Center – Houston, TX
Broadcast – NBA TV
The Wizards stroll into Houston on Monday as a league average team when it comes to the first bucket. That’s overachieving on their tip average, which is just 37.5%. While those numbers aren’t ones I’d automatically fade, they aren’t good when facing the Rockets. The Rockets will have a 12.5% advantage when it comes to the tip. They too are outpacing thier tip percentage with first buckets. Their 70% success rate puts them in the top five of the league. With that many first buckets up against a team with that bad of a tip number, you have to go to Houston for the pick in this one.
The Rockets have also spread out their first bucket love this year. They have four different guys who have tallied the first score on the season. While only Jalen Green is leading that pack with three, I’m loving the early action from Dillon Brooks. He’s the only player on their team consistently taking an early shot. In the last four games, he has appeared in the shot log in the first three shots for the Rockets in each of the last four games – the only shooter to do so. He has missed a lot of those shots, but that’s helped inflate his number here. And something has to fall eventually, right?
