College Basketball Picks November 11

Rutgers -15.5 vs. Saint Peters

The Scarlet Knight impressed in their opening game of the season at Jersey Mikes Arena. They did play a weak Wagner squad, but they covered the spread with ease. Ahead of that game, I was a little concerned about the clash of styles between run-and-gun point guard Dylan Harper and Steve Pikiell’s slow-tempo offense, but we saw a nice mesh of the two.

When the Scarlet Knights had numbers, Harper pushed the ball in transition, but when there was an opportunity to run a full offensive set, the team did so. Lathan Sommerville was another bright spot for Rutgers. The freshman center pitched in with 11 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.

The status of potential top-five pick Ace Bailey is still up in the air. If he plays, this selection will be even more of a slam dunk. Bailey is a guy that can easily provide 25 points on a nightly basis.

McNeese +19.5 vs. Alabama

Alabama faced a scare on Friday, as they were tied with Arkansas State late in the fourth quarter. We saw a similar thing with Alabama last season: they struggled early in the season and became an elite team down the stretch. Alabama loves shooting the three-ball yet struggled immensely on Friday. They shot just 6-31 from deep.

This won cut it against a McNeese team with a decent amount of preseason hype. Many experts predicted they would win the Southland Conference. Christian Shumate, Quadir Copeland, and Joe Charles are as solid of a top three as there is in a non-power-four conference.

If Bama isn’t hitting their three-pointers at a high rate, I am confident that McNeese can keep this game within the number.
